It consists of a trough mounted on a stand. In the trough a ribbon like conveying scroll is attached to a shaft. The ribbon may be continuous or interrupted. The shaft is operated by an electric motor. The trough is semicircular, with lid. It can be tilted on the stand to remove the material. When the motor is started the material gets mixed due to convection and shear. Two ribbons, with opposite direction may sometimes are attached to the shaft. A mixture of high homogeneity can be produced by prolonged mixing, even when the components of a mixture differ size, shape, density or have a tendency to aggregate.
Ribbon Blenders consist of a U-shaped horizontal trough and a specially fabricated ribbon agitator. A ribbon agitator consists of a set of inner and outer helical agitators. The outer ribbon moves materials in one direction and the inner ribbon moves the materials in the opposite direction. The ribbons rotate at approx. 300 fpm moves materials both radically and laterally to insure thorough blends in short cycle times. Ribbon agitators are used for blends that will be between 40 and 100% of the rated capacity of the blender.
An alternate agitator is our paddle design. The paddles are positioned to move materials in opposing lateral directions and radically. The paddle design is normally applied where friable materials are being blended and when batches as small as 15% of the total capacity are going to be mixed in one blender.
The outer ribbon displaces the material from the ends to the center while the inner ribbon moves the material from the center to the ends. This counter-current action results in homogenous blending. The ribbons rotate at approximately 70 - 100 meters per minute and move the material both radially and laterally to ensure thorough blends in short cycle times.
